HOMECOMING OF HANNAH M. BEALS

The Obituary of One Who Had Lived Nearly Forty Years In Earlham and Bear Creek

Again we are brought face to face with the realities of life for in life there is death. Our sister who has associated with us here for so many years, has gone from us and we believe if she could speak to us today it would be in her usual way of exortation, "Prepare to meet Thy God, O Israel."

Miriam loved much and in return was loved by all who knew her. We shall miss her cheery smile, her kindly hand-clasp, her words of cousel, and most of all the influence she wielded through prayers.

Hannah Miriam Jones was born in Blune County, Tennessee, March 28, 1848, and passed on to her heavenly home January 24, 1930 at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Of a family of twelve children Miriam was the eldest daughter, when but a small child she came with the family from Tennessee, traveling across mountain and plain, by the slow pioneer way the ox-team and covered wagon.

They settled on a farm near Richland, Iowa in which place she grew to womanhood. Her mother being an invalid for several years, Miriam was the home maker for the family preceding and following her mother's death.

She was married to Samuel Beals in 1893 and lived the remainder of her life at Earlham, and in the Bear Creek community. His death came after twelve years of happy companionship.

She leaves to mourn her passing three brothers, Frank of Richland; Robert of Oskaloosa; Henry Jones of Mystic, Iowa; and the family she has mothered for so many years; beside many other relatives and a host of friends. Six brothers and two sisters preceeded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the Bear Creek church Sunday afternoon. Interment was in Bear Creek cemetery.
