Barbara Drake (Sawyer) Demory, age 79, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Demory; her parents, James and Louisa Sawyer; and her two sisters, Doris Poindexter and Phyllis Gallagher. She will lovingly be remembered by her children, Phyllis Medrano of Chicago, IL, and Randy (Deanna) Demory of Grand Rapids, MI; her brother, Philip (Carla) Sawyer of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Sadie Hall of Chicago, IL, Simon (Erin) Demory of Charleston, SC, Benjamin Medrano of Denver, CO, and Luke Demory of Charleston, SC; and five great grandchildren.

She was born in Madison County, Iowa and graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1950, where she was a member of Theta Upsilon sorority. She was a meticulous housekeeper, loved to play cards and Scrabble, and was quite talented in creating ceramic pieces for friends and family. She volunteered many hours at the Des Moines Botanical Garden and the Living History Farms. In lieu of a funeral, she requested a graveside service with family, and for her ashes to be buried alongside her late husband in Hutchinson, Kansas. Arrangements by:
