Obituary

Elbert Geter Nicholson was born in Washington county, Indiana March 7, 1842. He with his parents came to Scott county, Iowa in 1848, and to Madison county in 1854. They first settled on what was known as Coon Divide.

In 1870, September 6th, he was married to Miss Ann Isabelle Haines of Mahaska county. To this union was born one child, which died in infancy. After coming to Madison county he was engaged in farming till 1870, when he moved to Winterset, where he was engaged from time to time in various kinds of business, but always busy.

His business relations made him a very familiar figure on the streets of our city, and when he was confined to his room, he was greatly missed by his friends, which were many.

After about eight months of untold suffering, during which time all and all that was in the power of human skill to do, he found relief in death on the evening of July 2d, at 6 o’clock.

The funeral occurred from his late home, conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett of the Christian church. After the funeral service his remains were laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
