Earlham, Iowa
January 1896MOTHER
Is gone where there is no more aches, no pains, no sickness, no troubles, Nothing but happiness.
May God shower his blessings down upon the motherless home. We intend to meet her in Heaven. May God bless her.
Martha Elizabeth Andrews was born Sept. 11th, 1840, in La Porte County, Indiana. She moved to La Porte City with her parents, where at the age of fifteen years she was married to William Andrews. Three children blessed this union.
In 1866 she was married to Dr. J. F. Irvin. Two years later they came to Iowa and settled in Adel where they lived for most ot the time until in 1886 when they moved to Earlham where they lived until she passed away on January 26th, 1896, after having been a great sufferer for several years at last having a very difficult surgical operation performed which finally proved fatal.
She was the Mother of nine children all of whom were present at the funeral.
She united with the Christian church thirty-five years ago and has ever since been an acceptable member.
She was laid away in the Earlham cemetery, by the side of her mother who was laid away only last May. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. McCrea of DeSoto. She was a kind and indulgent mother, a faithful companion, and a tender nurse in time of sickness. Many are the homes that she has brightened and many are the hearts that she has cheered as she went with her husband on his visits to the sick. And large is the circle of friends who will mourn her departure. She left to her loved ones the richest legacy, that a mother can give, her firm faith and love for her Savior and the happy assurance that she was prepared to go.
(Burial was in the Earlham cemetery)
