FUNERAL AT TRURO FOR HENRIETTA SMITH

Funeral services for Henrietta Smith were held Monday afternoon, July 22 from the Kale Funeral home in Truro.

Mrs. Smith died July 19 at Clarinda. She was 83 years of age.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Homes, she was born July 1, 1874. On June 5, 1896 she was married to William D. Smith, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smith lived on a farm in Clarke county for 56 years. She was a member of the Truro congregational Christian church.

She is survived by five children, George of St. Charles, Ormil and Lano of Oakland, Calif, Fern Mahaffa of Oakland, Calf., and Fae Yeaman of Wadsworth, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Hilma Perkins of Clinton, Il, and Mrs. Theo Henderson of Winterset, one brother, Guy Holmes of Nashua, Ia.

Officiating at the funeral Monday was the Rev. Dale Lockhart of Truro. Burial was in Hartman cemetery near. Truro.

SMITH BURIAL MADE IN HARTMAN CEMETERY

Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Smith, resident of Clarke county for more than half a century, were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon July 22d from the Kale Funeral Home at Truro. Mrs. Smith, who was 83 years of age, died Friday, July 19th at a Clarinda hospital.

Rev. Dale Lockhart of the Congregational church at Truro officiated at the services and burial was in the Hartman cemetery there.

Born July 1, 1874 in Madison Co., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Holmes (now deceased). She grew to womanhood around Truro and Clarke Co. When in her teens she joined the Christian church and continued in that faith until her death. She became the bride of Wm. D. Smith in Osceola on June 5, 1896 and lived on a farm in Clarke county for 56 years, moving to Truro Jan. 1, 1951.

Surviving Mrs. Smith are her husband, Wm. D. Smith, three sons George of St. Charles, Ormil and Larro of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Fale Yeaman of Wadsworth, Ohio and Mrs. Fern Mahaffa of Oakland, California; two sisters, Mrs. Hilma Perkins of Clinton, Ill. and Mrs. Theo Hendrickson of Winterset and a brother, Guy Holmes of Nashua; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two sons Hassel of Moline, Ill. and Russel of Truro, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Patterson of Clarke Co.
