Sarah M. Renshaw, wife of Sylvester Renshaw, died at her home in Jefferson township, Madison county, Iowa, February 23d 1883, aged 33 years, 2 months and 23 days. She was born in Clayton county, Ia., Nov. 26, 1849. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Hazen, of Jasper county, Mo., were with her during the most of her sickness and did all they could to save the life of a kind daughter.

She was converted and joined the United Brethren church when about 15 years of age, she was a member of the North Branch class of the U. B. church and held the office of class steward when she died.

Her illness lasted eight weeks, and was attended by much suffering, all of which she endured with great patience and resignation. That same kindness and unselfish spirit which made her life attractive in health, characterized her life all through her suffering. Never was there a brighter example of cheerful Christian patience than she exhibited until extreme weakness and suffering had done their work and she passed away to the better land.

She was at all ties filled with abounding confidence in the Lord, and when questioned in regard to her hope, she cheerfully gave assurance that all was well and spoke of her dear little children. As a wife and mother she was a model of faithfulness, and her memory will ever be to her husband and children as an ointment poured forth. Her great concern was for the welfare of her family and the church, and no one could make the itinerant and his family feel more at home than did this kind and now sainted sister.

May we also die the Christian’s death and share with her the Christians eternal joy.

The funeral services took place at Center school house, in the presence of a large circle of mourning friends, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Manary.

The remains were interred in the cemetery at Fairview with appropriate services.

Sister Renshaw will long dwell pleasantly in the memory of all who enjoyed her acquaintance in life.

She leaves a husband and five children to mourn their loss.

The family is highly respected and we hope that the virtues and graces of the departed wife and mother, which made her life so beautiful, may be emulated by all of the bereaved and that all may meet in the mansions of light.

W. H. Manary
