THE REAPER CALLED DEATH

The Final Summons Comes to Four Winterset Homes

Mrs. James Johnson died at her residence on South Fifth street Sunday morning. She formerly lived in Monroe township and was a pioneer of that locality. She came to Winterset with her father, Squire Alexander, a number of years ago and was subsequently married to Mr. Johnson. Obituaries of these estimable citizens will be published elsewhere.

MORTUARY - MRS. JAMES (Margaret) JOHNSON

Margaret Annie Alexander was born in Pleasanton, Mo., and died at her home in Winterset, Iowa, Dec. 21, 1913, at the age of 56 years and two days.

She was married Jan. 8, 1898 to James Johnson.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and seven brothers, as follows: John and T. J. Alexander of Texas, C. A. Alexander of Washington, Dr. B. J. Alexander of Kansas, J. G. Alexander of Colorado and F M. and G.B. Alexander of Winterset. Besides these, she leaves several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Johnson united with the church when she was a young girl and remained a faithful member, always anxious for the things of the Kingdom of God. A few nights before she died, she asked the nurse to sing "Rock of Ages" and offer a short prayer, after which she told her she was prepared to go. She said it was so nice to Love Jesus. She had been sick but a short time, and while her friends understood that she was in a critical condition, yet the end came as a shock to them and the community.

The funeral was held at the Baptist church, on Tuesday at two p.m., conducted by the pastor.

Margaret Annie Alexander was born December 19th, 1857, at Pleasonton, Mo., and died at her home in Winterset, Iowa, December 21st, 1913, age 56 years and 2 days.

She was united in marriage to Jas. Johnson January 8th, 1898. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, seven brothers: John and T. J. Alexander, of Texas, C. A. Alexander, of Washington, Dr. B. J. Alexander, of Kansas, J. T. Alexander, Colorado, and F. M. and G. B. Alexander, of Winterset, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A few nights before she passed away she asked the nurse to sing “Rock of Ages” and offered a short prayer, after which she said she was prepared to go; that she would like to have been spared a few more years, but that she was ready at any time. She united with the church when a young girl.

Mrs. Johnson was a woman who was beloved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed in the community in which she lived.

The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon from the Baptist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Moon, and interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
