U. S. WOODWARD DIED HERE FRIDAY

Long-Time Resident Here Was 86 Years of Age

Ullysses S. Woodward, one of Madison county's oldest residents, died in Winterset at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Donal Lillard on Friday, April 23. He was 86 years of age on March 28.

Mr. Woodward, son of William S. and Dellia McDole Woodward, was born near Delphi in Polk county. (1868) At an early age he came with his family to Madison county and most of his life was spent here.

On Sept. 28, 1892, he was married to Ella Rollstin, who preceded him in death. They were parents of three children. A son, Willis Floyd, gave his life in World War I.

Mr. Woodward was the oldest member of the First Baptist church in Winterset. He became a member when he was 17 years of age and remained active until the time of his death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Opal Travis and Mrs. Gem Lillard of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Ola Brainard of Delta; a brother, Willis Woodward of Des Moines; and three grandchildren, Marcia, David and Judy Lillard of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Walter Cecil, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
