Page 4DEATH OF MR. ROBERT MURPHY
(State Register)
Brief mention was made in Thursdays REGISTER of the death of Mr. Robert Murphy, which took place at Earlham the preceding day. The funeral will take place to-day upon the arrival of the train from the west, about noon. The body will be conveyed directly from the depot to the cemetery.
Mr. Murphy was born in North Carolina, September 5, 1796. Here he remained until 1811, when, with his fathers family, he removed to the Territory of Indiana, settling near where the city of Richmond is now located. There he was married and ten children blessed the union. All of these attained maturity, and seven are still living.
When sixty nine years of age, in 1865 he removed to Des Moines, partly for the benefit of his health and partly that he might be near his children. Nine years later the faithful wife that had long traveled the journey of life by his side was laid at rest, and since that time Mr. Murphy has resided with his daughter at Earlham.
Death came to him as the reaper to a harvest field full ripe. The trials and responsibilities of life he had met bravely and well. Children that clustered about him in early life had grown to manhood and womanhood, and added honors to his own good name. The example of years had built for him a reputation more precious than gold, and when the summons came it found him ready to go, and radiant with a hope born of the Christian's faith.
