Wednesday, July 14, 1954AUTOS COLLIDE AT RURAL CORNER
Woman Passenger Dies at Memorial Hospital Wednesday
Mrs. Claire Harrison, aged 44, of near Macksburg was fatally injured about 9 a.m. Tuesday when the car in which she was riding was involved in a collision with another car at a rural road intersection in Webster township.
Drivers of the two cars were Delbert Dolson of near Winterset and Rolla V. Brown of Creston, both of whom received less serious injuries. Mrs. Harrison was riding with Brown.
The collision occurred at the Givan corner, two miles north and two miles west of Macksburg. Dolson, who was alone in his car, was going west and Brown was proceeding north.
Both cars were demolished in the wreck.
Mrs. Harrison was rushed to Memorial hospital in Winterset, but died Wednesday morning as result of a fractured skull, internal injuries and numerous broken bones and lacerations.
Mrs. Harrison's death was the third highway fatality of the year, and the second of the past week in Madison county.
Brown was treated at the hospital for a head wound and released. Dolson was attended at a Winterset physician's office for a head cut and possible fracture of the ribs.
Mrs. Harrison had been a resident of Madison county for several years. She was the former Opal Wick of Afton and since her marriage to Claire Harrison had lived at Afton, Thayer and in the Pitzer neighborhood before moving to near Macksburg.
Near surviving relatives in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Betty and three sons, Billie, Donald and Harvey.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed as the Madisonian went to press, but relatives thought they probably would be held this Friday at Macksburg.
