SAVANNAH STANLEY FRY

Savannah Stanley Fry, daughter of Josiah and Sarah Wilson Stanley, was born near Earlham, March 1, 1868 and departed this life at the home of her sister, Estella Williamson, on September 9, 1954 at the age of 88 years six months and eight days.

She grew to womanhood in this vicinity and was united in marriage to James L. Fry in 1886. To this union were born six children, three of whom survive: Dr. Bernard Fry of Corning, Iowa; Horace Fry of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Mary (Mrs. Fletcher Allen) of Ames, Iowa; Hazel, Seth and Willard, preceded her in death. Clara Tough (now Mrs. G. O. Hayes) as a young girl, was cared for and treated as one of the family in the Fry home for eight years.

Mrs. Fry was a birthright member of the Friends church and retained this membership until the time of her passing. Her life radiated the true spirit of love and unselfishness.

She was possessed with a cheerful disposition, marvelous patience and was always thoughtful of others. She was interested in the better and more worthwhile things of life, and always upheld the principles of right living. She loved her family and friends and was loved by all.

Her entire life was spent in or near Earlham until the time of her husband's death in 1823.(1923) Since that time, she has made her home with her daughter, Mary in Ames, Iowa. Each year she spent some time with her other children. She also enjoyed visiting in the homes of old friends and relatives. She often expressed her appreciation of the kindness and thoughtfulness shown to her by her children and others. She was very much devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was permitted to live beyond the three score years and ten, but was suddenly called to exchange the mortal life for the immortal; her earthly house, for a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. She is not dead but sleepeth. Here is the victory that overcomes the world.

She leaves to mourn her passing three children; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Ira Stanley; three sisters, Estella Williamson, of Earlham; Aletha Baker of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Ethel Jacobs of Hotchkiss, Colorado; many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.
