WALTER CORD OF WINTERSET DIES

Death of Life-Long Local Resident Occurs at Hospital Friday

Walter A. Cord of Winterset, a life-long resident of this community, died Friday Oct. 29, at Memorial hospital. He was 72 years of age.

Mr. Cord was born here March 2, 1882 a son of Oliver and Alice Cord. He was married Dec. 19, 1902 to Bessie Lenore Davis who survives him.

As a young man, Mr. Cord operated a feed store here. Later he was engaged in the ice business in Winterset over a long period of years.

In addition to his wife, he leaves six daughters, Mrs. Helen Day, Mrs. Reva Murphy and Fern Cord, all of Winterset, Mrs. Dorothy Dethlefs of Hampton, Va., Mrs. Shirley Ferris of Bel Alton, Mo., and Mrs. Mary Martin of Houston, Tex. He is survived also by five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and three brothers, Harry Cord of Burlington, Ralph Cord of Chicago and John Cord of Bevington.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the (North) McDonald cemetery in Jefferson township.
