DEATH OF JOSEPH SMITH

Joseph Smith, an inmate of the Madison county home, died there suddenly Saturday. He was about 62 years of age.

Mr. Smith was born near Hanley the son of George and Sarah Smith and had spent all of his life in this county. He is survived by a brother, John Smith of Winterset and two sisters, Martha Jane Smith of Bevington, and Mrs. Matilda Thompson of New Virginia.

Funeral rites were conducted at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Monday by the Rev. W. C. Porter.

Bevington

Joe Smith aged about sixty years died suddenly at the county home last Saturday and was buried in Blair Chapel cemetery last Monday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Porter of Winterset at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born near St. Mary’s, Iowa, but came when a mere boy with his parents to a small farm southwest of Bevington. After the death of his parents he has worked for John Cassiday north of here until his health failed about one year ago when he went to the county home. Death was caused by heart disease.

His immediate survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Curt Thompson of St. Mary’s and Miss Janie who lives with Mrs. M. Quinn near here, and two brothers Dave of Kansas and John of St. Charles.
