JAMES ABRAHAMS DIES SUDDENLY

Former Winterset Resident Dies at Des Moines Hospital

James W. Abrahams, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Abrahams of Winterset, died at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines Sunday, Jan. 10. He was 41 years of age. Death resulted from a heart condition.

Mr. Abrahams was born near Winterset on Aug. 4, 1912, a son of William and Grace Abrahams. His early life was spent in this community. He graduated from the Winterset high school where he was one of the outstanding football players in the history of the school, winning top all-state honors as a lineman.

He was married Aug. 1, 1931 to Eliza Marie Sage. They were parents of three daughters. For many years they had lived at Prairie City, where they moved from Winterset.

During the second World War he served in the U. S. navy for 19 months. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; the three daughters, Wanda, Phyllis and Virginia; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Abrahams of Winterset; three brothers, George Abrahams of Winterset, Clyde Abrahams of Keokuk and Charles Abrahams, who is a U. S. Marine officer at Cherry Point, N.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. George Evans of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Rudolph Koberg of Galveston, Tex.

Funeral services were held Tuesday with military honors, from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery with the American Legion conducting the grave-side rites.
