THE LAST ROLL CALL

Death, the Wish of Some, the Relief of Many and the End of all has Visited Many Homes in this Community.

Eli T. Morris

Was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, September 22, 1828. He came to Iowa in 1849, where he was employed as a stage driver on a route leading westward from Keokuk. In 1853 he went to Sangamon county, Ill., where he lived for a number of years. In 1855 he was married at St. Louis, Mo. to Rachel Bishop. In 1863 he enlisted in the 10th Illinois cavalry and having served till the close of the war was honorably discharged at San Antonio, Texas.

On returning from the army he resided at his old home in Sangamon county for some years and then removed to Champaign county, Ill., where he resided till 1880 when he came to Madison county, Iowa.

There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Morris eleven children, five sons and six daughters, two of whom died in infancy and one son dying from injuries received in an accident about a year ago.

Those still living are Mrs. Nellie Gregg of Aurora, Ill., J. E. Morris of Clarence, Mo., Mrs. Agnes Miller of Jackson, Minn., Mrs. Kittie Hammond of Iroquois, S. Dak., John R. Morris of Seafield, Ind., Hurley Morris of Alpha, Minn., Mrs. Ruth Whitney of Des Moines, and Benjamin Morris of this place. There are thirty-one grandchildren and six great grandchildren living. There were three daughters and two sons present at the funeral.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday the 12th and the interment was at the Rock City cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Wilbur Eugene Requa assisted by E. R. Zeller.
