Well-Known Music Teacher Was a Life-Long Resident of Winterset
Mrs. Pearl Newerf, a life-long resident of Winterset, was found dead at her home in Winterset last Thursday morning. Death was caused by a heart attack. Mrs. Newerf lived alone, and the body was not found for several hours after her death.
Mrs. Newerf was 77 years of age at her death, which occurred in the house where she was born, Nov. 15, 1877, and which was her life-long home. She was the former Pearl Darnall, daughter of Albert and Jennie Quaintance Darnall.
She graduated from Winterset high school and the Simpson College Conservatory of Music. She taught music in the Bedford school and for many years was director of music in the Winterset grade schools. In recent years she had devoted her time to private piano lessons.
She was an active member of the Winterset Methodist church, having served as choir director and soloist, and for many years was church organist. She was active also in the Winterset Women's club and was a long-time member and organist for Easter Star here.
She was married in 1928 to Charles Newerf who preceded her in death in 1951.
Nearest surviving relatives are a sister-in-law Mrs. Orion A. Darnall of Des Moines; a niece Mrs. Donald A. Wallace of Evanston, Ill.; and a nephew Richard R. Wallace of Evanston.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
