Services for Dr. Edward R. Tompkins, 77, Coral Gables, Fla., who died Jan. 6 following a brief illness, were held in Florida.
He was born April 7, 1908 in Madison County, the son of Ernest and Harriett Tompkins. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1927.
He attended Simpson College and the University of Colorado and later earned his doctorate of sciences at the University of California at Berkeley. He was employed as a civilian by the Navy during his working career and lived in San Francisco.
Dr. Tompkins retired to Key West, Fla., in 1973 to pursue his hobby of fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; sons, Kenneth of San Jose, Calif., and Ernest of Palo Alto, Calif.; two granddaughters; sister, Iva Giddings of Fort Jones, Calif., and Mabel Klaaren of Escondido, Calif.; and a brother, Vernon of Sun City, Ariz.
A family memorial was held at Key West.
