A. R. LIBBY OF WINTERSET DIES

Took Own Life by Hanging Saturday at His Home Here

A. R. Libby, a life-time resident of Madison county, took his own life by hanging at his home in northeast Winterset last Saturday morning.

Mr. Libby and wife had risen about 7 a.m. and he left the house while Mrs. Libby prepared breakfast. When he had not returned to the house by 7:30 a.m. she started to search for him and found him in a nearby wood shed. Officers were called and County Coroner Paul Eggleston after an investigation, officially reported the death a suicide.

Mr. Libby was 69 years of age, and had been a resident of Madison county since 1902. He was born Sept. 5, 1885 in Greene county, a son of William and Susan Libby. He came to Madison county in 1902 and spent the remainder of his life here. During his active years he engaged in farming.

He was married March 29, 1911 to Angele M. Preston. They were parents of seven children. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Rynearson of Granger preceded the father in death on Jan. 27 of this year.

Surviving are his wife; six children, Francis Libby of Ringsted and Harold Libby of Winterset, Mrs. Inez Harrell, Mrs. Ella Harrell and Mrs. Betty Stephenson, all of Peru; and Mrs. Ruth Bush of Lorimor. He also leaves 27 grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Libby of St. Charles and Elmer Libby of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Linn of Rallston, Ia.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Earl Travis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
