Donald E. Whilhite, 86, of Truth or Consequences, N. M. died Feb. 21, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, N. M. following a short illness.

A memorial service was held Thursday, March 1, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Sean Garrity officiating. Burial was at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Donald Wilhite was born Sept. 16, 1914 to Elbert E. and Eva (Schirmer) Wilhite of Emmetsburg. A 1938 graduate of the University of Iowa, he married Helene Bernard in 1939 in Iowa City. He taught school in several locations throughout Iowa, including teaching English at Winterset High School in the 1940s. Donald and family relocated to California in 1952 where he worked for North American/Rockwell as an engineer until retirement in 1975. He had resided in Truth or Consequences since 1976.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Helene of Truth or Consequences; three sons, Michael B. Wilhite (wife Pat) of Buena Park, Calif, Gerald F. Wilhite of Cypress, Calif., and Eric E. Wilhite (wife Pat) of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by French Mortuary of Truth or Consequences.
