Irvin Dale Tharp, 84, of Winterset died of a heart attack Feb. 23, 2002, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 27) at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Burial was at Dalmanutha Cemetery, Casey.

Dale Tharp was born May 17, 1917 to Charles B. and Nora (Hutchinson) Tharp of Casey. He grew up in Casey and Stuart. On April 18, 1938, he married Martha Newman in Des Moines. In 1984, he moved to Winterset. Dale was a retired landscaper, having worked for Des Moines-based companies. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winterset and earlier in his life, had been a member of the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, three brothers, five sisters and a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Martha of Winterset; a son, Verlin D. Tharp (wife Sharon) of Fleming, Colo.; two daughters, Patricia Bequette of Patterson and Vickie Fitch of Winterset; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
