WILLIAM STANDFIELD OF WINTERSET DIES

William Standfield, who many years ago operated the Standfield hotel in Winterset, died Thursday, May 5, at a nursing home here, at the age of 88 years.

Mr. Standfield had received a fractured hip in a fall three weeks before his death. Two weeks later he suffered a stroke, and this was followed by a fatal heart attack last Thursday.

Mr. Standfield was born in Madison county Dec. 5, 1866, a son of George and Jane Wilken Standfield. His parents operated the Standfield house here before him. In later years he had lived at Tingley, but was brought to a Winterset nursing home when his health failed.

Mr. Standfield never married, and his closest surviving relatives are cousins, of which only one, Mrs. Lucinda Lavalleur lives in this community.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by Eldon Grulke. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
