MRS. IDA BELLE GARST DIED LAST THURSDAY

Mrs. Ida Belle Garst, a life-long resident of Madison county, died Thursday, Sept. 1, at Osceola. She was 79 years of age.

Mrs. Garst was a long-time resident of the Truro community. She was the former Ida Belle Jones, daughter of Theo and Elizabeth Jones, and was born in Madison county Nov. 12, 1875. She was married to P. E. Garst in 1894.

She was a member of the Christian church and Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Richards of Osceola, three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, conducted by the Rev. Walter Shilling. Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery.

Mrs. Ida Garst passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gladys Richards in Osceola, Thursday.

Funeral services were held at the Kale funeral home Sunday at 2 p. m. in charge of Rev. Walter Shilling. Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery.

Ida Belle Garst

Ida Belle Garst, daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth Jones, was born in Clarke county, Iowa, November 12, 1875, and passed away at the home of her daughter at Osceola, Iowa, September 1, 1955, at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 19 days.

She was united in marriage to Phillip Edward Garst of Truro, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1949.

Her entire life was spent in or near Truro. She united with the Christian church at an early age where her membership remains. She has always been a consistent Christian, a loving companion and a devoted mother and grandmother.

She was affiliated with Ivy chapter O. E. S. and took an active part as long as her health permitted.

Mrs. Garst lived a quiet unassuming life and won for herself an abiding place in the hearts of all who knew her.

She leaves to mourn their loss a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Richards of Osceola; three grandchildren, Kenneth C. Richards of Des Moines, Vera B. Allen of Aberdeen, Washington, and Vernon L. Richards of Portland, Oregon; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Smith of Des Mines and Mrs. Edith Whitehead of Lorimor. Besides these she leaves nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Coordinator's note: Of the conflicting counties of birth, Clarke County appears to be correct as is stated in both the 1885 and 1895 Iowa State Censuses. The family is in Clarke County in each census from 1880 through 1910.
