Tom Phillips, Winterset

Tom D. Phillips, 58, of Winterset, formerly of Knoxville, died July 7, 2004 at the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N. M.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday July 17, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with Pastor John Shaull officiating. Visitation with the family present will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Ochiltree's.

Tom Phillips was born July 2, 1946 in Shawnee, Okla., to Darrel and Mary Louise (Shaw) Phillips. He was a construction superintendent for Oakview Construction, with offices in Red Oak and Des Moines. Tom previously worked as a carpenter for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville and as a maintenance manager for Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He also served as fire chief for the Knoxville rural fire department and was involved with the Knoxville Little League program, coaching and umpiring softball and baseball. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his companion, Deena McDonald of Winterset; two daughters, Alyssa Jean Phillips and Amy Beth Isenhart, both of Coralville; one son, Joseph D. Phillips of San Diego, Calif.; a sister Glenda Thacker of Farmington, N. M.; three brothers, Ralph Roland of Oregon, Rich Cowan of Waxahachie, Texas, and Mike Cowan of Duncan, Okla.; and one grandchild.
