Obituary – G. B. Frederick

G. B. Frederick, of Webster township, died December 31, 1929, of asthma and bronchial pneumonia. Funeral services were preached at the Webster church Thursday, January 2 by the Rev. A. R. Weed and the Rev. Rowe. Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery.

George Brainard Frederick, old son of George Watson and Nancy Ann Frederick, was born in Ohio, May 30, 1859 and departed this life on December 31, 1929, being 70 years, 7 months and one day old at his death. When but a few months old his parents migrated to Louisa county, Iowa, where his father had bought a quality of prairie land, and they were among the early pioneers of the state. The family were all connected with the United Presbyterian church at Crawfordsville, Iowa, where some of the relatives still attend.

When from ten to twelve years of age the family lived for a few years in Monroe county, north of Albia, where they were members of Service United Presbyterian church. A few years later they moved to Adair county where he lived near Greenfield until his marriage to Miss Minnie Proctor June 20, 1886, when he bought a little farm on Middle River at the village formerly known as Webster. It was here on this land that he and his wife lived and labored together for nearly forty years, later adding more acres to his little farm.

The following children were born to them, all of whom survived, except the firstborn Dallas Clark; Nora A. Murphy, of Dexter; Clara Garland, Winterset; Paul Dole Frederick, of Fillmore, Indiana; Jessie Young, of Hebron; Mabel McCorkle, Auburn, Indiana; Maud Smith, St. Charles; George Frederick, Hebron; Gertrude Dalen, Redfield; and Carl Frederick at home and 15 grandchildren.

In addition he leaves two brothers and five sisters, his being the first death in that family circle. Those remaining are: Mrs. Mattie Moore, Waterloo, Indiana; Mrs. Netta Wilkin, Albia; Mrs. Annie Harrison, Ventura, California; Rev. John Irvin Frederick, Grinnell; Mrs. Ida Norris, Tacoma, Washington; Sherman C. Frederick, Greenfield; Mrs. Ollie Limbrick, Tacoma Washington.

The deceased was a sufferer from asthma all his life long, from two years of age; but by patience, persistency and industry, overcame every handicap. He never knew what it was to draw an easy, comfortable breath. On account of his physical condition he was never an active church goer, but what he lacked in profession was made up in performance. He was a firm believer, and lived his religion instead of talking about it.
