Shirley Jean Shortt, 63, of West Branch died of cancer June 24, 2007, in the care of the Iowa City Hospice at the Solon Care Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 28, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at Altoona Cemetery.
Shirley Shortt was born in 1943 to William and Flossie Logan of rural Corydon. She attended Humeston School and Carlisle High School, from which she graduated. On Jan. 18, 1963, she married Roy Shortt. They lived in the Mitchellville, Truro and Runnells areas. Following Roy’s death, she resided in Altoona and Wildwood, Fla. During her career, Shirley worked for the Polk County Juvenile Home, Southeast Polk School District and Iowa Methodist Medical Center/Lutheran Hospital, from which she retired. During her life, she attended Woodland Hills Church of Christ, Wildwood (Florida) Baptist Church and the West Branch United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, William and Richard; and a sister, Mary.
She is survived by three sons, Roger of Winterset, Roy of Waterloo and Robert of West Liberty; a sister, Maxine Mealey of Indianola; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the West Branch United Methodist Church.
