W. J. LYON

William Jerome Lyon, well known former resident of Madison county passed away at his home in Des Moines last Wednesday, June 8 at the age of eight-one years, eleven months and nineteen days.

Mr. Lyon was born in Madison county, July 20, 1856, and lived on the old Lyon farm east of Winterset for almost fifty years.

He was united in marriage with Clara Doty on July 4, 1875. To this union were born nine children, six daughters and three sons, all of whom together with his aged widow, survive.

In 1913, he retired from farming and moved to Des Moines where he lived until his death.

Those left to mourn his passing are his eldest sister, Hulda Roy of Villard, Minnesota; his widow, Clara Lyon; the children, J. A. Lyon, Mrs. W. A. Quick of Winterset, Mrs. C. A. Quick, Fred Lyon, Mrs. J. E. Bradley, Lloyd Lyon of Des Moines, Mrs. H. C. Hope of Garden Grove, Mrs. Alfred McCleary of Carlisle and Mrs. D. W. Walford of Boone; twenty-one grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; and a host of old neighbors and friends.

Funeral rites were held Friday at 2 o'clock from the Hamilton funeral home in Des Moines in charge of Rev. E. A. Elliott. Burial was made in the Glendale cemetery.
