Winterset, IowaPIONEER PASSES
Mrs. Isaac Ray, a pioneer settler in Madison county, died at the advanced age of 97 years at Sloan, Ia., about two weeks ago. She was within a few days of her ninety-eighth birthday at the time of her death.
Mrs. Ray was a grandmother of Ernest and Roy Allen and Mrs. Mable Smith of this county. She had come to Madison county as a girl in the early days of settlement here, before the Indians had vanished from the region. In later years, she and her husband donated the land where the Elm Grove church now stands.
She is survived by two sons, two daughters and 200 grandchildren, down through the third generation.
Among those who attended funeral services at Sloan for Mrs. Ray on Nov. 10 were Mrs. Ernest Allen and grandson, Kenneth Smull and Wayne and Lillian Allen of Winterset, Mrs. Roy Allen of New Virginia, and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Smith and daughters, Erma and Edna of St. Charles.
