Native of Denmark Passed Tuesday at Age of 86 Years
Earlham--(Special)--Hans J. Peterson, a widely known and highly respected citizen of this community for many years, died Tuesday at his home in Earlham. He was 86 years of age.
Mr. Peterson was a native of Denmark, where he was born Jan. 5, 1854. When he was 27 years old he came to this country, settling first at Rock Island, Ill., where he lived a year. He later moved to Jasper county, Iowa, where he was married to Miss Rena Peterson. They later moved to this community, and for the past 46 years he had lived in or near Earlham.
On Sept. 21 of this year, Mr. Peterson and his wife had celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Harry Burch of near Winterset, with all their children and grandchildren present.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Mrs. DeVere Jackson of Earlham, Charles Peterson of Winterset, Mrs. Harry Burch of Winterset, Frank Peterson of Linden, and Walter Peterson at home. He also leaves a brother, Nels Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Kellogg; and a brother, sister and half-sister in Denmark.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Earlham Presbyterian church, in charge of the Rev. Peter Bock, assisted by the Rev. Overhulser. Burial will be made in the Earlham cemetery.

November 1940Hans J. Peterson son of Peter and Margaret Jacobsen was born in Denmark, January 5, 1854 and passed away at his home in Earlham, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 21 days.
At the age of 14 he was confirmed a member of the Lutheran church.
When 27 years old he came to America to make his home, first locating in Jasper county, Iowa.
On September 22, 1886 he was married to Rena Peterson of Kellogg, Iowa.
To this union were born seven children, two sons dying in infancy.
The past 46 years he has lived in or near Earlham.
On September 22 of this year Mr. and Mrs. Peterson celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary with all of their children present.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and five children. Mrs. Gertrude Jackson of Earlham, Charles Peterson and Mrs. Stella Burch of Winterset, Walter at home and Frank of Linden, Iowa. A brother Nels Peterson of Salt Lake City, Utah, a sister, Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Kellogg, Iowa, and two sisters and one brother living in Denmark. Nine grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews, also a host of friends and neighbors.

Morrison and Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Newton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Martin and Mrs. Ida Peterson of Maxwell, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Chriss Hemmingsen, Mrs. Elsie Hemmingsen, Mrs. Clarence Henninsen and Mrs. Ernest Grohe of Newell, Iowa; Mrs. John Smith of Des Moines; and Mr. and Mrs. Ora Haines, Mrs. Harry Anderson, Mrs. Dale Gray, Mrs. Elbert Gray and Mrs. Clarence Baker of Winterset.
