C. L. NIELSEN DIED HERE LAST FRIDAY

Had Conducted Photographic Studio in Winterset Over 40 Years

Long months of failing health ended in the death here last Friday of one of Winterset's veteran residents and most respected citizens, Carl Lauritz Nielsen, who had been engaged in the photographic business here for more than 40 years. He was 75 years of age.

Mr. Nielsen was a native of Denmark, where he was born at Bearing on June 19, 1865. He was the son of Joseph Hinrick Nielsen and Malfreda Hansen Nielsen. He received his early education in his native land, and after the death of his parents he came to this country at the age of 18 years. He located in Dayton, O., where two of his brothers had previously made homes in the country of their adoption.

After remaining in Dayton long enough to learn English, he went to Sacramento, Cal., where he found work in a photographic studio. Later he returned to Dayton where he continued this work, and then moved to Omaha. He first came to Winterset in 1892, called here to take charge of the Woodward studio. Here he was married on July 25, 1894, to Miss J. Maude Kendig. Following their marriage they established a studio in Omaha, and later in Auburn, Neb. In 1899 he brought his family back to Winterset, and this community had since been his home.

Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen were the parents of two children, a son and a daughter. He is survived by his wife; the son, Eugene Nielsen of Winterset; the daughter, Mrs. H. L. Boys of Des Moines; three granddaughters, Virginia Mae, Margaret Ruth and Martha Grace Boys; a sister, Mrs. Kristina Dauble of Kenosha, Wisc.; two brothers, Alfred Nielsen of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Thorvald Nielsen who still remains in Denmark.

Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Monday, conducted by the Rev. Walter Samp of the Methodist church, assisted by Mrs. Kathryn Kale. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
