THE COUNTY AND CITY

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Simpson, (nee Jessie Miles) of Patterson, was received here Friday. As a young girl Mrs. Simpson attended school here and since that time has been a frequent visitor in town. She has been a victim of consumption for some time. The sympathies of all are with the bereaved family.

Patterson

Mrs. Jessie Simpson (nee Jessie Miles) died at her home near Patterson February 15th. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church of this place by Rev. Hancox. She was a sufferer from consumption but remained patient until the last. The family have the sympathy of a host of friends in their sad bereavement.

Mrs. James Simpson died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Miles near Patterson last Friday and the burial occurred on Saturday. Mrs. Simpson had been a bride of but a few weeks. She was a lady that had not been enjoying good health for some time, but her complaint was not considered serious.

Mr. Simpson had procured a home in this city and had it nicely furnished, but Mrs. Simpson, owing to her physical condition, never was able to see it. The blow in losing his wife and bride is severe to Mr. Simpson and he has the sympathy of his friends.

Jessie Miles-Simpson

Jessie Miles was born near Patterson, Madison county, Iowa, February 11th, 1874. She united with the M. E. Church at Webster, Iowa, at the age of fourteen years, and eight years ago moved her membership to the M. E. Church at Patterson where she has been an earnest and faithful worker both in the church and Sunday School. She was organist for several years and was always found in her place.

She was united in marriage with James M. Simpson on December 20th, 1899.

She had been in poor health about one year and confined to her bed for six weeks, but was always patient and cheerful and ready to go when the Lord called for her.

She died February 15tgh, 1900, at the age of twenty-six years and four days.

She leaves her husband, father, mother, two sisters and one brother, to mourn her loss.

Funeral services were held at the church in Patterson. A large congregation of relatives and friends were present. Services were conducted by Rev. Hancox, the pastor assisted by Rev. Long, of the U. B. Church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery north of Patterson.
