COATES WILSON OF WINTERSET IS DEAD

Veteran Resident Returned From California Only Last Week

Coates Wilson, well-known resident by the pioneer people of Winterset, died at the local hospital Saturday, May 11th, after a short illness. Mr. Wilson, who was 80 years of age, had, with Mrs. Wilson, spent the winter in Long Beach, Cal. He returned to his home here May 5th, and became critically ill the following day. He was taken to the local hospital where death came.

Mr. Wilson was born in North English, Ia., Jan. 5, 1860. The family came to Winterset when he was seven years of age, and this town has since been his home. He was married to Clara Bell Orris, Feb. 17, 1885, and they were the parents of nine children, three of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, who is in California, confined to her bed with a broken hip, and unable to return to Winterset with him, or for his funeral, and a son, Guy Wilson, of Arcadia, Cal., who was also ill and unable to attend the services; Mrs. Mabel Orr of Winterset; Mrs. E. G. Campbell of Des Moines; Mrs. C. B.Tompkins of Bell Flower, Cal.; Mrs. H. G. Horning of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. W. H. Tenney of Cumberland, Wisc.; and nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Mack, John and George Wilson, and three sisters, Mrs. Susan Walker of Winterset, Mrs. Ann Drake and Mrs. Jim Greenfield of Oskaloosa.

The Rev. Tom Foglesong conducted his funeral services which were held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Monday morning at 11 o'clock, and burial was made in the Plainview cemetery southwest of Winterset. The Rev. Mr. Purdy of the Grant Park Church of Des Moines assisted with the services.
