MADISON COUNTY NEWS

Mrs. J. H. Stiffler, now of Norwalk, Cal., a daughter of Uncle John Byers, writes to her daughter, Mrs. G. A. Neal, of St. Charles, that her father passed from earth on the morning of January 11th.

To those who knew Mr. Byers for so many years whilst in our midst, it is not necessary to say that he was one of nature’s noblemen; an upright, honorable, kind, straight forward, Christian gentleman; a pioneer of Madison and Warren counties; built the first house in St. Charles; lived in and near here for the many years prior to his removal to California, where he finished his well-done life work at the time stated, surrounded by all his children, his life-long companion preceding him but a remarkably short time. He had about rounded up his four score years, and they were well and profitably spent.
