On Wednesday morning Mr. James Murray received a telegram that his son Fred was not expected to live until night. Later in the day a second telegram was received, stating that the young man was dead. It is said that he had been ill a short time, but no particulars of the illness have been received.

Mr. Fred Murray has been for some time in the employ of the Santa Fe Railroad Company at Ft. Madison and recently was home on a few weeks’ vacation. The sympathies of a large number of friends are with the bereaved family.

Died - Fred Murray son of James Murray, of this city, died very suddenly Thursday morning at Fr. Madison, where he had been in the employ of the Santa Fe railroad for the past eight years. The supposed cause of his death was a complication of stomach and bowel troubles.

He was born in New London, Henry county, Iowa, October 19, 1865, and came to Winterset with his parents in 1874. He graduated in the high school of Winterset in 1880, in the same class as Fred Ratliff and Caleb Robbins, of this city.

The remains were shipped to Winterset last Friday evening and the funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock p.m., Saturday, after which the remains were interred in the Winterset cemetery.

Obituary

Murray – At the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Smith, 434 Fifth street, Wednesday, January 17, at 10:15 a.m., Fred G. Murray.

The deceased was a nephew of Mrs. E. D. Smith, with whom he made his home for the past eight years. He was the some of Mr. and Mrs. James Murray of Winterset, Iowa, a young man of exceptionally fine qualities of mind and heart, and a member of the Presbyterian church of Winterset. He had been in the employ of the Santa Fe railroad in various capacities since his residence here and at the time of his death held the position of clerk in the yardmaster’s office. His late serious illness commenced Saturday, January 13, although he had been complaining he rapidly failed until death relieved his earthly sufferings.

During his illness he received the close and kindly attention of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who have done all in their power to relieve his wants and are deeply grieved at his sudden and early demise. – Ft. Madison Evening Democrat.

Fred Murray Dead.

The deceased was a nephew of Mrs. E. D. Smith, with whom he made his home for the past eight years. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Murray of Winterset, Iowa; a young man of exceptionally fine qualities of mind and heart and a member of the Presbyterian church of Winterset. The remains of the deceased were brought to this city last Friday evening and the burial was conducted from the residence of his parents Saturday afternoon. The remains were interred in the Rock City cemetery.

Fred G. Murray was born at New London, this state, and came to Winterset with his parents when but nine years old. He attended our public schools and graduated in the same class as Fred Ratliff. He was an exceptionally bright boy and had numerous friends among his associates. His aged parents have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
