MRS. JAMES H. COX

Mary Catherine Seams, daughter of John and Jane Seams, was born in Marion county, Iowa, March 23, 1858 and was called to her reward March 16, 1920, age 61 years, 11 months and 23 days.

She was married to James H. Cox, Jan. 7, 1875. To this union were born nine children: Mrs. Bertha Montgomery of Carpenter, Wyo.; Verl Eugene Cox of Fort Des Moines; Mrs. Rebecca R. Leggett of Truro; Martin A. Cox of Morgan, Minn.; Mrs. Bessie M. McDaniel of Murray; Ernest E. Cox, John A. Cox, Mrs. Mary Emma Reither and James F. Cox of St. Charles, all of who were present at the funeral, except Mrs. Montgomery, who was unable to come.

Mr. and Mrs. Cox moved from Marion county to Sumner county, Kansas, in 1884. Two years later they returned to Madison county, and have lived ever since that time in or near St. Charles.

Mrs. Cox was always a firm believer and with her husband united with the M. E. church of St. Charles in 1910, under the pastorate of Rev. George.

On Oct. 3, 1918, she had a stroke of paralysis which left her partially helpless. She was apparently feeling as usual, until shortly before her death, when another stroke of paralysis released her from all earthly suffering and allowed her spirit to ascend to her heavenly Father, who had ever been her comforter.

Mrs. Cox was a devoted wife and mother, a kind and sympathetic neighbor and though she suffered intensely for almost 18 months, yet she was ever patient and always had a smile and kind word for everyone.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a husband, nine children, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. One sister, Mrs. Rebecca Minard of Davenport, Nebr.; one brother, Geo. Seams of Swan, Iowa, who was with her at the time of her death; and one half brother, Martin L. Snyder of Pleasantville, Iowa, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held at the M. E. Church Friday, March 19th, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. A. E. George of Bayard, assisted by her pastor, Rev. W. L. Allen. She was laid to rest in the cemetery southwest of town (St. Charles).
