Charles Henry Armstrong

Charles Henry Armstrong was born June 20, 1860 in Franklin county, Ohio and died January 24, 1932 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Russel Smith in Des Moines. He was a son of Joseph P. and Hannah Gordon Armstrong and of a family of six boys and two girls, of which but one remains, Mrs. Margaret Horton of St. Charles. When about six years old he came with his parents to Iowa in which state he has been a continual resident of St. Charles the past fifty years. His illness was of short duration.

On October 6, 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Nora Ellen Swesey of Truro. To this union 3 children came to brighten the home and lend charms to its peacefulness. In order of ages they are, Guy Murray, Ralph Vernon and Ruth Marie, now Mrs. Russel Smith of Des Moines. During a revival meeting conducted by Rev. M. J. Rarick several years ago in the old church now the opera house, he gave his heart to God and lived a consistent life in the church until his death.

He leaves a loving wife, his three children, 2 grandchildren, Ellen Jean Smith and Phil Richard Armstrong, an affectionate sister Mrs. Margaret Horton, two nieces, Mrs. Arlie Horton Johnson of Wapello, Margaret Armstrong of Boise, Idaho and one nephew, Ernest P. Armstrong of Boise, Idaho
