MRS. ATHA HANEY DIES AT IOWA CITY

Long Known As Leader in Church Work in Her Community

Mrs. Dennis E. Haney of near Patterson died on Wednesday of last week at the University hospital in Iowa City. She had been ill over three weeks and had been under treatment at Des Moines and Iowa City hospitals.

Mrs. Haney was 49 years of age. She was the former Atha Viola Greenfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Greenfield, and was born March 27, 1891, near Winterset.

She was united in marriage to Dennis Edward Haney on Feb. 16, 1910. They were the parents of four children.

At an early age she became a member of the Oak Grove United Evangelical church and was always an active worker in the church of the community in which she lived. At the time of her death she was Sunday school superintendent of the Patterson Methodist church, where she held her recent membership.

She leaves her husband; the four children, Paul Edward Haney, of Des Moines, Raymond Leo Haney, Elsie Rose Penick and Howard Dennis Haney, all of Winterset; three grandchildren; her father and mother; two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Patterson of Monroe, and Mrs. Achsa Eling of Wichita, Kan.; and a brother, Moody Greenfield of Winterset.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Methodist church in Winterset, preceded by brief rites at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Tompkins here. The Rev. J. H. Machian of the Patterson Methodist church officiated, assisted by the Rev. J. R. McNichols of the Winterset church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
