Minnie Dorothea Frech

Minnie Dorothea Frech, daughter of Christopher and Katherine (Schule) Frech, was born in Dallas county, Iowa, September 27, 1890. She came with her parents to Madison in the same year, settling on a farm near Pitzer, where she grew to womanhood, attending school in that neighborhood.

After completing her education, she taught in the rural schools of Madison county for four years giving up this work to keep house for her father. She later took a business couse in the Des Moines University, upon the completion of which she accepted the position of secretary to the superintendent of the city schools at Shenandoah, which position she filled for a number of years. Here she suffered a nervous collapse in April 1928, from which she never recovered and departed this life on July 27, 1929 at the age of 38 years, 10 months.

She united with the United Presbyterian Church at Pitzer at the age of 13 years. When the family came to Winterset she changed her church membership to the First Methodist church, to which she had always given her loyal support. So long as health permitted she was active in the work of the church and was happy and efficient in her service. Minnie is remembered best as a young woman of sterling character and splendid ability, as well as deeply devoted to the work she undertook to do. She was loved by all who knew her, friends as well as family.

She leaves to mourn her departure, four sisters and one brother of the immediate family. These are; Mrs. F. W. Groth and Mrs. Oscar Lee of Winterset; Mrs. J. F. Meilike of Altoona; Pauline of Quincy, Illinois and Will Frech of Winterset. Besides these there are five nieces, four nephews and one grandnephew. Also a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Methodist church by the Rev. A. P. Keast and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
