Mrs. Ida Collins, widow of J. H. Collins, and one of Chariton’s best known and most highly esteemed ladies, passed away at the Yocom hospital in Chariton on Wednesday night, December 17, 1930, about eleven o’clock, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, and 13 days.

On December 8th she suffered a paralytic stroke, from which she never regained consciousness. Funeral services, conducted by her pastor, Rev. E. L. Stone, of the M.E. church, were held at the Beardsley Funeral Home on Friday afternoon at three o’clock, after which she was laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.

Ida Lee was born in Winterset, Iowa, on May 4th, 1859. She grew to young womanhood at that place and was married there on September 9, 1886, to J. H. Collins, who preceded her in death three years ago last May. To this union four children were born, two of whom died in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Katharine Luce, passed away a year ago last Friday. One son, John H. Collins, of Des Moines, survives, also one grandson, Palmer Collins Luce, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and three sisters, Mrs. Lee Graham and the Misses June and Bess Lee, of Winterset, and one brother of Lamar, Colorado, besides a host of friends.

Mrs. Collins had been a faithful and devoted member of the Methodist church for many years, and led a consistent Christian life. She was also a member of the local P. E. O. chapter. A loving and devoted mother, a dear sister, and a kind neighbor has been called to her heavenly home. To know her was to love her and her death has brought sadness to many hearts. To the sorrowing son, grandson, sisters and brother, the sympathy of the entire community will be extended.
