Thomas Cox, son of Wesley and Huldah Cox was born near Earlham, Iowa, July 17, 1856. He was married to Sophroma Bell Thalls near Dexter, January 1885. To this union was born seven children, Orville, Oral, Oren, Dwight, Roma, Glen and Greta.

His entire life was spent near Redfield or Earlham, with the exception of a few years in Southern Minnesota.

He was a birthright member of the Friends church, and was of a quiet peaceful disposition. A kind husband and father. However, in later life he came to see his need of a vital touch from God, and on Thanksgiving Day under the ministry of E. Howard Brown, pastor of the Earlham Friends church and evangelist F. W. Dell, he and his wife knelt at an altar of prayer and yielded their hearts to God.

The loving companion of more than 50 years proceeded him in death October 12, 1937. On Sunday, March 31, 1940 he passed to the great beyond, being 84 years, eight months, and 14 days of age.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his children, 19 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Friends church Wednesday afternoon, April 3rd, Willis Craven bringing the message.

Week’s Letter from Earlham

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Earlham Friends church for Thomas Fox, who died Sunday morning. Willis Craven of Linden had charge of the funeral. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 12, 1937. He is survived by his six children, nineteen grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.
