MRS. M. H. BUNNELL DIES

Earlham--(Special)--April 20.--

Funeral services were held for Mrs. M. H. Bunnell Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church, with Rev. Latta preaching the funeral sermon. Mrs. Bunnell was 92 years, 10 months old at the time of her death which occurred at the home of her grandson, R. J. Lewis, with whom she had made her home this winter.

Mrs. Bunnell was the mother of five children, all of whom have preceded her in death. Ten grandchildren survive Mrs. Bunnell besides other realtives and a host of friends. Among the out of town relatives present at the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. George Cunningham and son Jack of Chicago, Mrs. Charles Wason of Canton, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Renshaw of Mason City, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed McCoy of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Matilda H. Jackson, daughter of George and Harriett B. Jackson, was born near Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, June 15, 1847 and departed this life April 15, 1940 at the age of 92 years and 10 months. She was the third child in a Methodist ministers family of seven, all girls, and her sisters are all deceased.

Her father recruited and was elected Captain of A Company of the 142nd Pennsylvania volunteers.

After the war was over she moved with her family to Illinois, where on September 15, 1870 she was married to Robert E. Bunnell. To this union were born five children, Nellie E. Lewis, John C. Bunnell, Beulah Renshaw, Fred J. Bunnell and Berneice Bunnell all of whom preceeded her in death.

She had lived in or near Earlham since 1900. Was a member of the Methodist church, and very interested in all of the phases of the work of the church, missionary society, Ladies Aid and Sunday School.

Besides her own family of children she made a home for some of her nieces and nephews.

She leaves to mourn her loss two daughter-in-law, 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a circle of friends.

The funeral services of Mrs. M. H. Bunnell were held last Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. Latta in charge. Burial was made in the Earlham Cemetery.

Mrs. Bunnell whose age was 92 years and 10 months has been ill since last September and was cared for in the home of her grandson, R. J. Lewis. Mrs. Bunnell’s children, five in number, at all preceded her in death, also five sisters, leaving her alone but for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Bunnell was born in Pennsylvania and had lived in this community for 40 years.

Left to mourn are ten grandchildren: Mrs. Helen Fagan, Mrs. Bruce Hill, Howard Bunnell and Robert Lewis of Earlham, Ward Lewis of Oakland, California; Mrs. E. L. McCoy of Des Moines, Mason Bunnell of Miami, Florida; Lucille Bunnell of Tarrytown, Mississippi; Marvin Renshaw of Mason City and Quenton Renshaw of Council Bluffs; a nephew, Dr. George Cunningham of Chicago, Ill.; nine great grandchildren and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. John Bunnell of Earlham and Mrs. Fred Bunnell of Miami, Florida.
