MRS. HENRY BULLIN, PIONEER, SUCCUMBS

In 1860 She Came to Iowa in Covered Wagon With Her Parents

Mrs. Henry Bullin, a resident of Madison county for 80 years, died at Peru on Tuesday of last week. She was 85 years of age.

Mrs. Bullin was the former Eliza Anna Garst, daughter of Phillip and Mary Garst, and was born in Indiana on April 16, 1855. When she was five years old she came to Iowa with her parents in a covered wagon. During her long life she witnessed the development of Madison county from a prairie wilderness to the community of today. After coming to Iowa, her entire life was spent here, with the exception of 18 months in Kansas and Colorado.

On December 24, 1872, she was married to Henry M. Bullin. They were the parents of seven children, two of whom died in infancy.

As a girl she joined the Methodist church at Truro, and was an active worker in the Ladies' Aid and the church and Sunday school as long as her health permitted.

She leaves her aged husband; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Emerson of Peru; four sons, Harvey Bullin of St. Joseph, Mo., Robert and Phillip Bullin of Malta, Mont., and George Bullin of Bentonsport; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Henthorne; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday of last week in charge of the Rev. J. H. Machlan of the Peru Methodist church, and burial was made in the cemetery there.
