Maria Denly

Maria Ayre, daughter of William and Ann Ayre, was born in Narborough, Norfolk county, England, March 10, 1847, and departed this life July 27, 1930, aged 83 years, 4 months and 17 days. In 1871 she was married to Edward Denly at London, England. In 1876, they came to the United States and settled near Lacelle, Iowa, later moving to Washington township in Clarke county. Here she lived until bereft of her companion, who passed away December 31, 1897.

Six children were born to this union; Charley and Frederick who preceded her in death; William of Afton; Harry of Murray and David of Truro where she quietly and peacefully passed away at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

She had made her home with her daughter, Ada, for the past eighteen years, but always looked forward to spending the summer months with her son. Mr. and Mrs. Denly were among the first member of the new Washington M. E. church.

She leaves to mourn her departure her four children; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a half brother, William Ayre of Talmage and a half-sister, Anna Fraser in England. Burial was made in the Fremont cemetery.
