Mrs. William C. Young, well-known resident of St. Charles, and Madison county, died last Monday, Nov. 3rd, at the age of 82 years. Mrs. Young was the former Nancy Jane Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Davis. She was born in Union township, Jan. 16, 1859, and she later taught schools in both Scott and Union townships.
On Sept. 19, 1878 she was married to William C. Young, and three years ago, she and her husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in their St. Charles home.
They were the parents of five children: Nellie, Earl, Bessie, Ralph and Gladys. Earl Young died in 1910 at the age of 16 years, while the family lived at Beresford, South Dakota, and Nellie, Mrs. Riley of Esterline, South Dakota, died in January, 1941.
Mrs. Young is survived by her husband, who is over 90 years of age; their three children: Mrs. Frank Van Gerpen, of Canton, South Dakota, Ralph Young of Des Moines, and Mrs. Basil Youngquist of North Branch, Minnesota. She also leaves 11 grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of a family of nine children.
For over 70 years Mrs. Young was a member of the United Presbyterian church, and the past thirty-eight years her membership has been with the Winterset church.
Her funeral services were held at the local United Presbyterian church Thursday, Nov. 6th, at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. Charles E. Courtney, the pastor, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
