MRS. R. L. CHAPMAN DIES

Mrs. R. L. Chapman, former Winterset resident died Sunday Sept. 26th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ora Howard of Cedar Falls. Mrs. Chapman who was 91 years of age had been in failing health for several years.

Funeral services for the deceased were held at Cedar Falls, Wednesday afternoon and the remains will be brought here and a prayer service, conducted by the Rev. L. F. Davis, will be held at the Winterset cemetery, Thursday afternoon, Sept. 30th at 2 p.m. (d. 9-26-1943)

Mrs. Chapman lived here a number of years ago. She was the former Miss Susan A. Winslow. Her husband died four years ago. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ora Howard of Cedar Falls, seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mrs. Charles Mills of Winterset is a granddaughter.

MRS. SUSAN CHAPMAN

Mrs. Susan Chapman, 91-year-old former Madison county resident died Sunday, Sept. 26th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ora Howard, south of Cedar Falls. Funeral services were held Wednesday Sept. 29th at the Brown Funeral home with the Rev. H. H. Dill officiating. The next day the body was brought to Winterset, where brief services were held at the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Chapman was born in Grant county, Ind., Feb. 12, 1852, the daughter of William and Ruth Winslow. When she was three years of age, the family came to Iowa in a covered wagon drawn by oxen and settled in Dallas county where she grew to womanhood.

She was married to Reason Lewis Chapman, March 15, 1878. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Howard, seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Seinhart of Des Moines. Her husband preceded her in death in 1936, and two daughters also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Chapman was reared in a Quaker home and when she was a young woman she joined the United Brethren church, and later transferred to the Christian church. She was a member of the Women's Relief corps of Cedar Falls.
