Winterset

David C. Applegate, 67, of Winterset, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.

A visitation will be held 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 17 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, with the family present to receive friends from 4 to 6p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 18 at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Memorials may be directed to the Kavanagh House on 56th or the John Stoddard Cancer Center, both of Des Moines. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Waukee Cemetery, Waukee.

David was born March 3, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Clark and Elnora (Nervig) Applegate. He was a 1958 graduate of Madrid High School and later served in the United States Air Force. His marriage to Nancy Copeland took place on October 12, 1960 at the Waukee Methodist Church.

David lived in Winterset since 1990, previously living in Woodward where he farmed. David was also an auctioneer, graduating from Kansas City Auction School and was most recently the golf course superintendent at Lakeview Winterset Country Club.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and golfing.

David is survived by his wife, Nancy of Winterset; two daughters, Valerie Petersen (Clark) of Manhattan, KS and Leslie Boettcher (Bill) of Ankeny; one sister, Linda Topp (Neal) of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, Jacob Petersen (fiancée, Julia Brown), Chelsea Petersen (fiancée, Tyler Manwarren), Chase Petersen, William Boettcher, and Joseph Boettcher; and one great grandchild, Tayden Manwarren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dwayne Applegate and a sister, Elaine Noland.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in Waukee Cemetery.
