W. H. RYAN DIED ON WEDNESDAY

Long-Time Resident Had Suffered Stroke on August 9

W. H. (Billy) Ryan, a well-known elderly citizen of Winterset, died at his home on South Eighth avenue Wednesday morning at the age of 84 years. He had been in failing health for the past five years, and had been bedfast since Aug. 9 as the result of a stroke suffered at that time.

Mr. Ryan was a native of Ireland, where he was born Nov. 20, 1846, but had lived most of his life in Madison county. Orphaned in childhood, he came to America when he was about 11 years old, with an older brother. After spending some years in the east he moved west, and came to Madison county as a young man.

He was married on Dec. 25, 1884 to Effie Mae Newell. They were the parents of three children. A daughter, Eva, and a son, Ray, preceded their father in death.

He is survived by one son, Ernie L. Ryan of Detroit; two grandchildren, Maurice Ryan of Winterset and Mrs. Francis Ford of San Diego, Cal., and three great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements had not be completed as the Madisonian went to press Wednesday afternoon.
