Page 1Death of Mrs. John S. W. Cole
E. K. Cole received word Friday of the death of his mother Mrs. John S. W. Cole at Albion. She was eighty-three years of age, and had been ill for the past two weeks with mastoid complications.
Mrs. Cole was the former Florille Hester, daughter of Aaron and Hannah Hester, and was born in Quaker City, Ohio, October 5, 1850. When she was three years of age, the family moved to Iowa and settled in the Quaker village of Palmyra, in Warren county, where the mother died the following year. The children were taken back to Ohio and lived with relatives and friends until the father married again four years later. They were then brought back to Iowa, which had since been the home of the deceased.
Miss Hester’s marriage to Mr. Cole took place, February 24, 1875 and he died July 27, 1906. During the last twenty years, Mrs. Cole has lived most of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Lenore Willemsen, a short time with her daughter, Mrs. Beth McLellan in Nebraska, with frequent visits to her son’s home in Winterset.
She leaves four daughters and one son: Mrs. Ethel Kersey of Fairfield, Mrs. Bertha Edwards of Sheffield, Illinois; Mrs. Beth McLellan, San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Lenore Willemsen of Albion and E. K. Cole of Winterset. One daughter Lela died in infancy. She also leaves three half sisters; Mrs. Viola Watker (Walker) of Colfax, Mrs. Laura Ozmun and Mrs. Sybil Kellogg of San Diego, California, eight grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
The Rev. Fred Madson conducted her funeral services which were held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home here, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery. Short services had been held at Albion, Sunday morning at nine o’clock.
