Widely-Known Resident of Winterset Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Charles W. Aikins of Winterset died at her home here Tuesday night after a long illness. She had been in failing health for the past four years and had been critically ill for several weeks. She was 70 years of age.
Mrs. Aikins was the former Alice Tade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Tade, and was born in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, on Nov. 12, 1870. She was reared in that community, and educated at Salem academy and Central college in Pella. After teaching school for several years she was married to Charles W. Aikins of Winterset on June 9, 1897. They started housekeeping in Winterset and this was her home for the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Aikins united with the Harrisburg Baptist church as a young woman and always continued in that faith.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Beth Campbell of Coriopolia, Pa., Mrs. Margaret Martin of Patterson, and Mrs. Dorothy Schoenenberger of Enid, Okla.; six grandchildren, Michael, Charles and Meredith Martin, Joe Schoenenberger and Bob and Douglas Campbell; two brothers, H. D. Tade and Will Tade of Hillsboro; and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Phelps and Mrs. Walter Harlan of Hillsboro, and Mrs. Howe Morrison of Wheatland, Wyo.
Definite funeral arrangements had not been completed Wednesday but will probably be held Friday afternoon.
