Long time Resident of Winterset Dies Saturday, Was Traveling Salesman
R. L. Leech, a resident of Winterset for over fifty-two years, passed away at the Leech home on West Court Avenue last Saturday at the age of eighty-one.
Mr. Leech who was born in Belmont, Ohio, came to Winterset in the spring of 1868. For a few months he engaged in the grocery business with his brother-in-law, W. C. Henery. He then took the local agency for the old Wheeler & Wilson sewing machine, was given a position on the road and later became the general agent for Iowa with that company. He continued with the old firm until it was taken over by the White company about ten years ago and continued with the White people until failing health forced his retirement about three years ago.
Funeral services were not held until yesterday forenoon in order that distant members of the family might be here. Mrs. Leech, whose maiden name was Addie E. Williams, passed away in 1905.
