MELVINA JOHNSON DIED HERE SUNDAY

Funeral Services Were Held Tuesday for 83-Year-Old Resident

Mrs. Melvina Johnson of Winterset died here Sunday at the age of 83 years.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Freeport, Ill., where she was born Dec. 28, 1860, but had lived in this community for many years. She was the former Catherine Melvina Taylor, daughter of Daniel and Mary Taylor. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since young womanhood.

She was married Aug. 11, 1881 to Marion Johnson. They were the parents of four children, one of whom died in infancy. Her husband died in 1936.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Nona Blair of Winterset; two sons, Walter Johnson of California and Rex Johnson of Macksburg; five grandchildren and one great grandson.

Funeral services were held here Tuesday from Anderson's Funeral home in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Coordinator's note: Although this obituary and her Iowa Death Certificate give her name as "Catherine", her gravestone and several censuses have the initial "K" for Katherine.
